Opening in 1701, missionary-minded Anglicans launched one of the earliest and most sustained trials to Christianize the enslaved families of Commonwealth of nations's protectorates. Clouds of clergy traveled to widely-dispersed posts in Northward America, the Caribbean, and West Africa under the auspices of the Elite for the Producing of the Truism in Foreign Split ups (SPG) and undertook this work. Based on a belief in the essential consensus of humanity, the Elite's preachers advocated for the reconstruction and better treatment of enslaved families. Yet, only a youth of enslaved families embraced Anglicanism, while a seniority rejected it. Study Christianity closely explores these missionary meets. The Elite hoped to make slavery less cruel and more oppressive but it came to stress the theories that capital slavery and Christianity were entirely compatible and could even be mutually beneficial. While important early figures saw slavery as troubling, over year the Elite accommodated its communiqué to slaveholders, advocated for jurisprudences that tightened colonial slave canons, and embraced slavery as a missionary easy mark. The SPG owned clouds of enslaved families on its Codrington orchard in Barbados, where it hoped to simultaneously make profits and save women. In Africa, the Elite cooperated with English slave traders in establishing a mission at Bill Coast Castle, at the nature of the trans-Atlantic slave merchantry. The SPG helped lay the foundation for black Protestantism but pessimism about the feature grew internally and black families's frequent skepticism about Anglicanism was construed as evidence of the inherent inferiority of African families and their American descendants. Through its texts and systems, the SPG provided important avant-garde, political, and championship for slaveholding around the The commonwealth. The pick up of antislavery sentiment challenged the principles that had long underpinned missionary Anglicanism's program, however, activists viewed the SPG as a significant institutional anti to their calendar. In this work, Travis Glasson provides a unique mindset on the result and entrenchment of a pro-slavery system by showing how English religious thinking furthered the result of slavery and supported the institution around the Atlantic world.
