Abstract: Abstract of the thesis entitled "Mobility and Radiotelephonics Resource Management in Heterogeneous Cellulars Structures" submitted by Xiaoshan Liu for the grade of Falsify of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong in October 2006 Future engenderment cellulars communication systems are characterized by ubiquitous connection and Excellence of Work (QoS) guarantees. They consist of IP-based heterogeneous cellulars structures (HWN) with overlaid analysis to provide customers with a broad hit the trail of connection services. In a cellulars communication system, mobility and radiotelephonics resource management are essential system functions to encourage smooths global roaming. However, the functions in HWN systems are very different from those employed in traditional solids cellulars structures, and presents new challenges. Paramount, the complexity and large scope of an HWN system adds to the latency of signaling when signals span the plug-in structures. When mobile customers make handoffs in HWN, long handoff holding pattern and heavy bag loss will be caused by this prolonged signaling exchange, seriously compromising QoS. Second, every plug-in structure is deployed following its own composition and the characteristics of its particular automation. Therefore, the underlying radiotelephonics resource management (RRM) functions need to be coordinated in admission control to improve customers' experience and system practice. In this consider, we propose methods in composition, custom and algorithms to solve the above problems in an HWN system. We paramount introduce a mobility management composition with an End Mobility Agent (EMA) to improve the practice of handoffs between different structures. In the composition, an EMA is introduced at the end of the low-tier structure to provide a transition area for handoff signaling exchange that effectively eliminates holding pattern and bag loss during a vertical handoff. We also propose a Work Differentiated Handoff Custom (SDHP) to handle handoffs between cells of the same structure. In SDHP, we classify connections' QoS compulsions into two genealogies and propose to use different handoff schemes to handle these connections to satisfy their different QoS compulsions. With SDHP, we strike a balance between customers' handoff experience and talent of radiotelephonics resource utilization. To optimize radiotelephonics resource utilization and connection selection, we propose two joint admission control schemes to allocate connection requests to different plug-in structures. In one strategy, the bandwidth to be allocated for each user is adaptive to the current resource utilization of every connection structure. A profit function is established to evaluate the pays off gained from a handoff and the victim structure is selected accordingly. In another strategy, we formulate the joint admission control complication as a Semi- Markov Finding Development, and employ bandwidth variation to improve customers' experience. We propose to use multi-agent system reinforcement learning to optimize SMDP. With this form, the system will learn an optimal policy from its experience that matches the characteristics of system quantity and user swap, and amplifies a policy-based system reward. With the above proposals in composition, custom and algorithms, we provide a emulsion combining mobility and radiotelephonics resource management and realize smooths global roaming with QoS encourage in HWN systems.
